These earbuds will use a completely wireless design. It was not clear if Apple would continue to ship EarPods along with the iPhone 7, and whether those EarPods would use Lightning or Bluetooth, but a new report from 9to5Mac suggests Apple will indeed ship Lightning-connected EarPods with the iPhone 7. Instead of plugging in a cable to recharge the battery, you can just drop the buds into a charging case to power back up. Also tipped to be on board are controls for picking up calls, activating Siri, and more.
The company is working on a new EarPods as well, which will be included with the iPhone 7 retail box.Apple is said to be designing earphones that do not include a connective cord. These earphones would be similar in design. This new pair of EarPods will connect via the Lightning port instead of the 3.5mm headphone jack. Charging would be done through a battery case.
According to a report from earlier this month, existing EarPods won’t be directly compatible with the iPhone 7. The company, however, plans to release an adapter to allow users to plug in their headphones with 3.5mm jack outlet. As per a report from last week, Apple is ditching the 3.5mm headphone port in an attempt to make the next iPhone slimmer by up to 1mm. Apple's next-generation iPhone 7 is rumored to come with a single Lightning port. Apple is speculated to sacrifice the headphone jack in favor of a slimmer, waterproof design.
The new earphones set might not sit well with users. Amid reports, more than 220,000 people have signed a petition that requests Apple to not ditch the standard headphone jack. 9to5Mac also reported that the earphones are currently under development in preparation for a fall launch, there's a possibility the technology could be delayed due to battery life concerns. The earphones are said to have a battery life under four hours.
The publication claims that Apple hasn’t finalized the design of the iPhone 7 just yet. The company currently has three different design for the next iPhone in mind; one of which offers slimmer body, while the second one resembles the iPhone 6s. The latter serves as a backup design.
